What happened
Shares of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) rose 16.1% from the December 31, 2025 close through October 20, 2026. The business answer is continued AI infrastructure growth: revenue more than doubled in the latest reported quarter, Data Center sales grew even faster and gross margin held at 75%.
The gain looks restrained beside the operating figures because the starting expectations were already high. Investors are rewarding another year of exceptional growth while still asking whether customers can keep funding AI infrastructure, competitors can narrow the software gap and export limits can stay contained.
Fiscal 2026 set the base. Revenue reached $215.938 billion, up 65%, and Data Center revenue reached $193.7 billion, up 68%. The company ended that year with $102.718 billion of operating cash flow, giving it room to fund research, capacity commitments and capital returns.
The first fiscal 2027 quarter accelerated again. Revenue reached $81.615 billion, up 85% from a year earlier, while Data Center revenue reached $75.2 billion. The company also raised its quarterly dividend and added $80 billion to its repurchase authorization.

The move in numbers
The price calculation uses the same common stock and U.S. dollars at both endpoints. One hundred multiplied by $216.47000122070312 divided by $186.50 minus one equals 16.0697%. ChartExchange showed $216.32 at 3:59:59 p.m.; the 0.07% endpoint difference does not change the whole-number headline or the investment conclusion.
Operating growth was much larger. First-quarter revenue of $81.615 billion plus second-quarter revenue of $96.221 billion equals $177.836 billion. That is 82.4% of the previous full year's revenue in only two quarters.
Data Center produced $75.2 billion in the first quarter and $89.0 billion in the second, or $164.2 billion combined. Dividing that by first-half revenue puts the segment at 92.3% of sales. The concentration is the growth engine and the main source of risk.
The second quarter also beat the prior $91 billion guidance midpoint by 5.7%. Revenue rose 18% sequentially and 106% from a year earlier, while GAAP gross margin held at 75%. Management then guided to $108 billion for the third quarter without assuming China Data Center compute revenue.

How the business works
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) designs accelerators, networking products, central processors and software for accelerated computing. It is fabless, so outside manufacturers build the chips, while the company develops the architecture, systems and CUDA software that customers use to train and run AI models.
The economics depend on selling a stack rather than one component. A customer can buy graphics processors, networking, complete systems and software together. That integration can reduce deployment time and create switching costs, which helps explain why gross margin remains closer to software economics than ordinary hardware economics.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMD) competes with accelerators and software. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) competes across processors and AI hardware. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), Alphabet Inc. Class C (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) also design custom chips, giving large cloud buyers an internal alternative.
The company remains ahead in reported scale. That lead matters only if CUDA, networking and new systems keep customers inside the platform as rival hardware improves. Product transitions such as Vera Rubin therefore test both technology execution and the durability of the ecosystem advantage.
Why the case is still difficult
The bull case is straightforward. First-half revenue reached 82.4% of the prior full year's total, Data Center remained above 92% of sales and 75% gross margin survived the expansion. Those figures support the view that the platform is converting AI demand into unusually strong profit and cash generation.
The counterargument starts with the same concentration. A small group of large customers accounts for a material share of revenue. Those buyers are spending heavily now, but they also have the strongest incentive and resources to build custom alternatives or pressure pricing.
Physical constraints matter too. The second-quarter filing says land, power, data-center shells and capital are crucial to customer deployments. Supply commitments, outside manufacturing and packaging capacity can affect results even when end demand is available. Export controls already remove China Data Center compute revenue from the near-term outlook.
A 16.1% stock gain does not prove those risks are priced correctly. It does show the market is applying a higher bar than revenue growth alone. If growth slows while margins compress, a premium valuation can fall before the business itself contracts.
What's next
The next quarterly report should be tested against the $108 billion revenue guide and roughly 74% gross-margin outlook. Investors should also track Data Center concentration, operating cash flow, customer commitments and whether Vera Rubin deployments stay on schedule.
The investment case strengthened in 2026 because demand, margins and platform execution all held. The unresolved test is whether NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) can keep growing from a much larger base while customers finance the buildout and alternatives improve. That test, rather than the 16.1% share gain by itself, will determine whether the case keeps compounding.
