Why it matters

The profit rebound did not carry into cash. OptimistFi calculates that operating margin rose to 10.8% from 4.6%. By its calculation, net cash from operating activities fell 39.2% to $1.09 billion from $1.79 billion.

The cash flow statement shows a working-capital outflow of $798.3 million, against an inflow of $900.88 million a year earlier. Capital expenditures dropped to $1.23 billion from $2.04 billion.

Ternium also added debt. Proceeds from borrowings were $768.49 million, mainly a $500 million syndicated loan at Ternium Mexico for the Pesquería investment plan. Non-current borrowings stood at $2.31 billion on Sept. 30 versus $1.81 billion on Dec. 31, 2025.

The Usiminas litigation is the main caveat. The provision for the CSN lawsuit stands at $619.1 million, up from $527.6 million on Dec. 31, 2025, after a $91.5 million charge in the period. If CSN finally prevails, the filing puts the amounts potentially payable at $457.2 million for Ternium Investments and $161.9 million for Ternium Argentina, at the Sept. 30 exchange rate.

OptimistFi has argued that Ternium must turn volatile demand into through-cycle cash. The margin rebound argues against 2025's compression becoming permanent, while weaker operating cash flow leaves the cash test open.
