Why it matters
OptimistFi's case is that SBFG works if its small Ohio and Indiana relationship-banking franchise can keep funding profitable local asset growth without giving back the gains through deposit-cost pressure or credit losses. This release supports the growth and credit parts of that case.
Loans were 88.14% of deposits at quarter end, and the company said that remained within target operating bands. Net interest income rose to $13.4 million, and net interest margin was 3.50%, up 2 basis points from the third quarter of 2025.
Asset quality stayed firm. Nonperforming assets were $4.3 million, or 0.27% of total assets, down from $4.9 million, or 0.32% a year earlier, and annualized net loan charge-offs were less than 1 basis point.
The main caveat is the expense line. Noninterest expense rose 14.4% to $13.2 million, and the efficiency ratio widened to 72.46% from 69.00%. Quarterly net income slipped even as revenue and loans grew.
At the same time, noninterest income increased 9.6% to $4.7 million, which helped offset some of the cost pressure. That leaves the quarter mixed rather than cleanly accretive.

What's next
The release said SB Financial Group will hold its third-quarter 2026 earnings conference call and webcast on October 22, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. EST. A lower efficiency ratio in a later quarter would strengthen the case, while higher costs or weaker credit would weaken it.
