Why it matters

The notes land on a thin balance sheet. Cash was $23.32 million on Sept. 30, down from $64.35 million at Dec. 31, 2025. Total equity was negative $49.83 million. Borrowings classed as current liabilities were $354.35 million.

Operations improved over nine months. Revenue rose 13.2% to $711.47 million from $628.68 million, and the loss narrowed 47.0% to $70.92 million from $133.88 million. The operating loss narrowed to $37.85 million from $57.63 million.

Part of the third-quarter narrowing came from finance costs. Net finance expense fell to $16.07 million from $47.56 million. The fair value charge on the Convertible Notes was $0.87 million, against $32.16 million a year earlier. Operating activities still used $11.48 million of cash in the nine months, against $17.36 million a year earlier.

OptimistFi has argued that Oatly's equity works only if demand and plant improvements turn into self-funded profit before liquidity forces dilution. The new notes add funding. Negative operating cash flow and negative equity show the test is not yet met.

What's next

Oatly's report for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2026 will show whether revenue growth and loss reduction hold, and how the new financing affects liquidity. Smaller cash use and a higher cash balance would strengthen the case. A wider loss or a further cash decline would weaken it.
