Why it matters
The report gives Hudbay a new feasibility-study baseline for Copper World. That matters because the project can now be judged against a current mine plan. It also updates mineral reserve and mineral resource estimates. In the base case, the report shows a projected cash balance of over $11 billion at the end of mine life. That makes the 2026 DFS the new reference point instead of the 2023 PFS.
The Extension Case shows an average annual net cash flow of $690 million from Year 5 to Year 12. It also shows a projected cash balance of over $4 billion at the end of mine life. OptimistFi's case is that Hudbay's value depends on whether its copper projects can keep turning favorable metal markets into cash without balance-sheet dilution.
The filing also gives a detailed project model. Process plant throughput rises from 60k stpd to 90k stpd, a 50% increase. It also says the assumptions include a $230 million upfront stream deposit from Wheaton Precious Metals at construction start.
The caveat is in the filing itself. The Extension Case is not the selected development option. It is described as other relevant data and is based on measured and indicated mineral resources that are not mineral reserves. That means the stronger cash profile is tied to a non-selected scenario.

What's next
The Extension Case mine plan would require Hudbay to apply for and obtain federal permits before Year 10. If those permits are secured, the higher-cash scenario becomes easier to evaluate. The report treats that as the higher-cash path. If Hudbay does not pursue that path, the base case remains the main benchmark for the project.
