Miami Mall Will Be Country’s Largest
The organization, based in Edmonton, Alberta already holds two of the biggest malls in North America – the Mall of America in Minneapolis and Canada’s West Edmonton Mall.
The company also owns the shopping center American Dream Meadowlands that will open at the end of 2016 in the New Jersey Meadowlands Sports Complex.
The shopping center American Dream Miami is proposed to be located on a 200-acre parcel of land in the northwestern part of Miami-Dade county, with the cost of the venture estimated to be $4 billion. It is expected to employ close to 25,000 to build it. The mall will be twice as large as Minnesota’s Mall of America, which is 100 acres in size.
Construction will require the 25,000 laborers and there will be about that same amount needed to keep the complex operating including the stores and restaurants in the mall.
With respect to feedback that has been negative saying a large number of the jobs would be low paying tourism and retail positions, Carlos Gimenez the Mayor of Miami-Dade told a local newspaper that all jobs are openly welcome, but some disarray existed concerning the total number of jobs that would be created.
Triple Five Group is closely held and operated by the Ghermezian family who are Iranian-Canadian. It was established by Jacob Ghermezian a rug retailer who is Iranian.
The proposed new venture comes during a time when large shopping centers are supposedly losing popularity as many customers are starting to shop online and at retailers as well as at markdown superstores.
A number of malls have shutdown during the last few years. However, Triple Five is advertising that its shopping centers are not only malls by not to miss destinations.
The proposed mall has been described amongst other malls as a standout that will have large shopping areas, but included gigantic gaming and amusement areas and a ski slant with artificial snow, a skating arena, roller coaster, indoor lake, apartments, inns, mini golf, a water park and more.
