Germany: Merkel rejects calls for Flat expropriation
Chancellor Angela Merkel and her allies that are center-left ‘ have been rejecting calls for its expropriation of flats from corporate property owners in response to rising rents in Western cities.
Affordable-housing activists in Berlin launched a effort on Saturday to induce the city’s authorities into taking nearly 250,000 flats worth billions over. There were protests against rising rents in cities.
Merkel spokesman Steffen Seibert said the chancellor doesn’t think that is the solution. He said”that the key to affordable living space is not expropriation but using a sufficient number of apartments out there.”
