Qnity (NYSE: Q) sales jump 22% and guidance rises, but GAAP profit slips

What happened

Qnity Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: Q) raised its full-year 2026 guidance after third-quarter net sales rose 22% from a year earlier to $1.56 billion.

Management set 2026 ranges of $5.77 billion to $5.83 billion in net sales and $1.78 billion to $1.8 billion in adjusted operating EBITDA. Adjusted EPS is guided to $4.95 to $5.05 and adjusted free cash flow to $800 million to $900 million. Qnity said strong third-quarter performance drove the raise. CEO Jon Kemp called it the company's tenth straight quarter of profitable growth.

Profit measures moved in opposite directions. Adjusted EPS rose 55% to $1.46 from $0.94. GAAP net income fell to $196 million from $223 million, and GAAP EPS dropped 14% to $0.87 from $1.01. The year-ago adjusted figures are pro forma, as if the Nov. 1, 2025 spin-off from DuPont de Nemours, Inc. had happened on Jan. 1, 2025.

Where the growth came from

Both segments grew, but Interconnect Solutions did more of the lifting. Its sales rose 30% to $759 million from $583 million. Semiconductor Technologies rose 15% to $797 million from $693 million. Asia Pacific supplied $1.24 billion of the total, up 24%. Organic sales, which strip out currency and portfolio actions, also rose 22%.

Operating profit grew faster than sales. By OptimistFi's calculation, adjusted operating EBITDA rose 35.9% to $503 million from a pro forma $370 million. Its margin widened to 32.3% from 29.0%. Gross margin reached 47.8% against 45.1%.

Interconnect Solutions' adjusted EBITDA rose to $236 million from $152 million. Semiconductor Technologies' rose to $285 million from $240 million. Corporate costs were $18 million against $10 million.

What held back GAAP earnings

Costs outside the adjusted measures explain much of the gap between the two profit lines. Interest expense was $64 million against $14 million a year earlier. Transformation, integration and other charges were $53 million against $1 million, including about $35 million for information technology independence work.

Qnity also booked $39 million of indirect legacy costs from cost-sharing arrangements with DuPont set at the spin-off. The company leaves them out of adjusted EPS.

Cash and debt

Cash generation was mixed. Cash from operations for the nine months fell to $647 million from $782 million. Capital spending rose to $290 million from $214 million. Adjusted free cash flow for the period was $607 million, against a pro forma $384 million a year earlier.

Qnity ended September with $1.12 billion in cash, up from $915 million at the end of 2025. Long-term debt stood at about $4 billion, down $7 million from the end of 2025. Over nine months the company spent $75 million on share repurchases and $50 million on dividends.

Why it matters

OptimistFi has argued that Qnity works only if its process-critical products stay qualified in customers' manufacturing flows, and that this durability must outweigh leverage left over from the separation. This quarter supports the first half. Both segments grew, margins widened and management raised guidance.

The leverage half is less settled. Debt has barely moved and interest expense is far above last year. One strong quarter does not show how the business behaves in a downturn. The year-ago adjusted comparisons are also pro forma, so they rest on the company's own spin-off adjustments.

What's next

The next test is Qnity's next quarterly report. It will show whether sales growth and margins hold near these levels and whether management keeps the full-year ranges.

Interest expense and transformation charges are the GAAP lines to follow. Another decline in GAAP net income alongside rising adjusted figures would sharpen the leverage concern.
