What happened
M/I Homes, Inc. (NYSE: MHO) CFO and director Phillip G. Creek sold 20,000 shares on Oct. 29 for about $2.53 million. The sale trims the direct stake of a senior officer who also sits on the board.
Creek sold in three blocks at weighted average prices from $125.49 to $126.41 a share. The shares came from 20,000 stock options that Creek exercised the same day, according to the filing.

Why it matters
The trade turned a long-dated option grant into cash. The exercised options carried a $47.59 exercise price, less than half the lowest sale price. They vested in two steps, 11,000 on Feb. 17, 2025 and 9,000 on Feb. 17, 2026, and were due to expire Feb. 17, 2032. The filing lists 17,000 options still held afterward.
Creek is an executive vice president, CFO and a director of M/I Homes, and the Form 4 was signed Oct. 30, a day after the trades. The filing reports the option exercise and the three sale blocks together, so the sale reads as part of one same-day sequence.
OptimistFi has argued that M/I Homes creates value through a land-and-product pipeline across 17 markets, a disciplined balance sheet and buybacks that lift per-share earnings, even when cycle headwinds temporarily compress margins. The sale does not change that operating case, but it trims the CFO's direct share exposure, so OptimistFi reads the trade as mixed.
The sale came with a same-day option exercise, and Creek keeps shares and options, so it is not a full exit.

What's next
M/I Homes' next quarterly report is the next test. Steady home deliveries and per-share earnings supported by buybacks would back OptimistFi's view, while margin pressure without that support would weaken it.
